Inspiration

The furry community often faces challenges on mainstream dating apps that don’t understand their unique identity. Purr4Furr was created to provide a safe, inclusive space for furries to connect, share their interests, and form meaningful relationships.

What it does

Purr4Furr is a mobile dating app tailored to the furry community. It includes swipe-based discovery, smart matching, real-time messaging, and furry-specific profile features like fursona integration, identity options, and interest-based matching.

How we built it

The app was developed using React Native with Expo for cross-platform compatibility. The backend utilizes Supabase for real-time data and secure user authentication. We also incorporated custom hooks and context providers for clean, maintainable state management.

Challenges we ran into

Technical challenges included managing complex state, implementing messaging, and dealing with asset management issues. Hurdles included designing an inclusive profile system and ensuring privacy and safety for the community.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a full-stack dating app with live messaging and sophisticated matching features. The app is designed to be a safe and inclusive platform where furries can express themselves authentically without judgment.

What we learned

We gained expertise in cross-platform development, database design, and real-time systems. We also learned the importance of user-centered design and creating inclusive experiences for diverse identities within the furry community.

What's next for Purr4Furr

Short-term plans include advanced filtering, geolocation features, and push notifications. Medium-term, we’re focusing on event integration, art sharing, and gamification. Long-term goals include expanding to a web platform, integrating AI-powered matching, and building virtual community features.
