Inspiration
We took inspiration from existing designs like the Smog-Free tower, and turned it into a more functional design.
What it does
Purebox units are deployed in densely populated areas and filter polluted air.
How we built it
Again, we researched existing designs that had our goal in mind. We then improved on their design, solving and optimizing it for efficiency.
Challenges we ran into
The 2 main issues were high power consumption and the need to replace filters. Adding solar panels fixed the excessive power consumption, while staggered deliveries and ease of replacement reduced operating costs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of Purebox's relatively compact design, allowing for it to be mounted basically anywhere where there's sunlight and smog.
What we learned
Pollutants in the air consist of various different substances, like chemicals and particulate matter, making it difficult to design something to capture all of them.
What's next for Purebox
Purebox's design and functionality will go through an iterative refinement process before being put into mass production.
