Pure Carbon: Hackathon Project Submission

Inspiration

The fragmented, inefficient carbon credit market motivated us to build Pure Carbon. Despite a projected global market value of \$16.38 trillion by 2034 and a staggering 37.68 % CAGR, current platforms suffer from excessive intermediary fees (up to 73 %), lack transparency, and engage users poorly. Many climate-tech startups lack the funding to scale, and selling carbon credits remains so complex that most organizations opt out. The voluntary market is set to explode from \$1.6 billion in 2025 to \$47.5 billion by 2035, yet accessibility is still a major barrier. Only a tiny fraction of offset projects focus on pure CO₂ removal, highlighting a huge opportunity for innovation. We envisioned a Robinhood-style platform to democratize access and gamify sustainability, driving real behavior change.

What It Does

  • AI Carbon Footprint Calculator Analyzes transportation, energy use, diet, and waste to deliver real-time CO₂ estimates. Offers predictive analytics to forecast emissions and recommend proactive offsets.

  • Gamified Sustainability Achievement system awards points for reduction activities and badges (for example, for 10 % emission reduction). Community challenges boost engagement—driving significantly higher retention compared to typical environmental apps.

  • Direct-to-Project Marketplace Connects users with verified projects (Amazon rainforest protection, Indian solar farms, Kenyan clean cookstoves). Eliminates large intermediary fees through blockchain-backed transparent transactions and digital certificates.

How We Built It

  • Platform: Built on Bolt.new for rapid prototyping and scalability.
  • Frontend: Typescript + Next.js for real-time data visualization and a responsive UI.
  • Backend: Render (authentication, PostgreSQL, real-time sync) powering our live trading dashboard.
  • AI Engine: Custom algorithms integrated with scientific emission-factor databases for accurate predictions and confidence scoring.
  • NLP & Recommendations: Bolt.new’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet supplies personalized tips and automated reports.
  • Gamification: Custom points engine, leaderboards, and social challenges drive ongoing engagement.

Challenges
