Inspiration
We were inspired to create this game because it had the capacity to let anyone step into the shoes of a student. Users can learn about what it is like to live a busy campus life, and what tradeoffs students have to make everyday
What it does
By allowing users to pick their own path when playing, they can observe how different decisions affect one's life. Valuing academics might take away from your health sometimes, being eco-friendly might mean giving up luxury, or mentally thriving may mean spending a little money. Either way, users can observe how their stats are affected, and make informed decisions about what is best for their player.
How we built it
We build PurdueEcoQuest using a Python backend, and a JavaScript, HTML, and CSS frontend. We learned a lot about how backends and frontends communicate, and utilized the Python flask library to do so.
Challenges we ran into
We had limited experience with frontends when we began, and so breaking down how the frontend would communicate with the backend was a challenge. But after doing some research together, we were able to create a backend that everyone understood, and fully understand the communication that happened behind the scenes!
What's next for PurdueEcoQuest
Our vision is for PurdueEcoQuest to truly encompass the student experience, so individuals can learn about how to healthily and effectively deal with challenges in everyday life!
