Inspiration

Communal health depends on those who live in it. Therefore, it's of utmost importance to maintain canine health to ensure stability of our health. More than 4.5 M were bitten the last year and 4 different types of deadly worms can be transmitted from dogs to humans
Mass panic has lead to cruel dog massacres even in "cultured" nations.
We need a solution that ensures the safety of both humans as well as their furry friends.

What it does

Puppy love helps you maintain your environment's hygiene in 2 steps:-
1) Stray Detection - The highly versatile software can be integrated with almost any monitoring device and detect the presence of strays in areas where hygiene is a concern.
2) Stray Protection - When a stray is detected the nearest pet shelter is notified of its presence. This ensures that our friend recieves the care he needs and has a great chance of finding a new home or maybe even reconcile with his past owner!

How I built it

  • I learnt RGB video processing using openCV
  • Worked with haar-cascade using python and made sure the software works even for corner cases. This was followed by optimizing the code to decrease computational time and resource utilization
  • Scraped the web for pet shelter location and contact. Wrote the code for nearest pet center detection and alerting of stray presence.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is my first solo project using computer vision. The fact that I did something for maintaining communal hygiene and the protection of my canine friends gives me great joy.

What's next for Puppy Love

The stray detection has been tested and it works well but due to the lack of time I could only scrape the details of shelters near Omaha. In the coming days I hope to expand my database and then proceed for deployment.
