Inspiration

As students in the age of COVID19, studying has never been lonelier and more fatiguing. For those that lack self-discipline, the pandemic has only further wilt their will to be productive. We wanted to create a simple application that utilizes the power of peer pressure to increase productivity.

What it does

Punkt has a simple and clean todo list for you to track your tasks. Not only so, Punkt is also a social platform that allows you to make buddies through the application. Simply send a buddy request to another user and after they have accepted your request, you can now see each other's todo list so that you can be pressured by each other's progress! You can also encourage each other through the chat function of our application!

How we built it

We used:

  • React Native for the frontend framework
  • Express and Nodejs for backend
  • Socket.io for chat function
  • MongoDB for database

Challenges we ran into

Time was a big hurdle that we did not cross in this hackathon. We chose to challenge ourselves by creating a mobile application despite neither of us being familiar with mobile app development and we could only rely on our React knowledge. This resulted in a very steep learning curve for the frontend programmer on our team. Unfortunately, we did not manage to complete our application in time. Furthermore, due to our lack of familiarity with mobile development, we ran into several bugs that costed us quite a lot time.

What we learned

To not be over-ambitious in our project scope and Murphy's Law.

What's next for Punkt

We hope to complete our application in our free time and perhaps add more features to make it more functional.
