We created Punch It by thinking about what productivity might look like in the year 2200. As technology continues to move faster and become more integrated into daily life, we wanted to design a system that still helps people stay motivated and reach their goals. Traditional to-do lists often feel stressful and discouraging because they focus on what has not been finished, so we wanted to build something more motivating and rewarding.

That idea led to Punch It, a to-do list website based on a punch card system. Our goal is to make completing tasks feel achievable and satisfying, even in a fast moving future. Traditional to-do lists do not match how motivation works. They reset progress quickly and emphasize unfinished tasks, which can feel overwhelming. Our punch card approach turns tasks into small, clear goals with visible progress and rewards, helping users stay engaged and feel proud of their effort.

This was our group’s first hackathon, and we all started with limited technical experience. Even though we did not know each other beforehand, we learned how to work together, combine our skills, and support each other through a steep learning curve. We designed the user interface in Figma and built the website using HTML, CSS, and Java, using online resources and guidance from on site mentors to help us learn.

One of our biggest challenges was picking up new technical skills in a short amount of time. When things did not work, we learned to problem solve together and ask for help. Overall, Punch It helped us grow both technically and as a team, and showed us that we can build something meaningful even with limited experience.
