Heart disease is the leading cause of death among the elderly, with congenital heart disease having the highest mortality rate of all congenital disabilities. According to WHO statistics, 17.9 million people die from heart disease each year, and over 80% of those who died had never been diagnosed due to a lack of efficient and accessible Tools for regular check-ups. This realization led us to create the CardioCrafters, a medical innovation that enables anyone to get a precise and regular heart check-up, anytime and anywhere, and help prevent the chances of paralysis and premature death for more than 803 million people worldwide. The early detection and diagnosis of CVDs are crucial for survival, and we want to ensure that everyone can access to the necessary tools for it.

How we built it
The construction of the CardioCrafters AI Stethoscope involved a multidisciplinary approach, integrating hardware and software components with advanced artificial intelligence algorithms. Here's a detailed overview of the construction process:
Hardware Development: Stethoscope Design: The team designed and engineered the physical stethoscope, incorporating high-quality sensors capable of capturing accurate heart sounds. Bluetooth Connectivity: Integration of Bluetooth technology enabled seamless communication between the stethoscope and the CardioCrafters app, facilitating real-time data transmission. Power Management: Efficient power management systems were implemented to ensure optimal battery life and device longevity. Quality Assurance: Rigorous testing procedures were conducted to validate the performance and reliability of the hardware components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and user expectations.
Software Development: CardioCrafters App: The software team developed the CardioCrafters app, creating an intuitive user interface for data visualization, analysis, and interpretation. Data Processing Algorithms: Advanced signal processing algorithms were implemented to preprocess the raw heart sound data captured by the stethoscope, enhancing signal clarity and minimizing noise. Challenges we ran into
The development of the CardioCrafters AI Stethoscope presented several challenges, ranging from technical hurdles to regulatory considerations. Here are some of the key challenges the team encountered:
Signal Processing Complexity: Noise Reduction: Heart sounds are often accompanied by background noise, making it challenging to extract relevant signal information. Developing robust signal processing algorithms to effectively filter out noise while preserving important cardiac signals was a significant challenge. Variability in Heart Sounds: Heart sounds can vary significantly among individuals and may be influenced by factors such as age, body habitus, and underlying medical conditions. Creating algorithms that can accurately identify and classify abnormal heart sounds amidst this variability was a complex task.
Miniaturization of Hardware Components: Designing and integrating high-quality sensors and electronic components into a compact stethoscope form factor while ensuring optimal performance and reliability posed a significant challenge. Balancing size constraints with the need for accurate data capture and seamless functionality required innovative engineering solutions.
