PulseCare: Smart Healthcare Ecosystem

About the Project

The inspiration behind PulseCare came from a growing concern in modern healthcare: many elderly individuals, patients with chronic illnesses, and people living alone often face delayed medical assistance, missed medications, and a lack of continuous health monitoring. Elder people with more than 1 health issue got a lot of different medicines when they need to take at different time, family members also sometime forget or get confused which is the right medicine. Elder people also don't discuss the issue when it is started and think that they will be well in 2-3 days, but these smaller issues can stack over time and cause big problems. Doctors also not able to continuously monitor the live condition of the patient after discharge.

We asked ourselves:

"How can technology help people stay safer, healthier, and connected in real time?"

This question led to the creation of PulseCare, a smart healthcare ecosystem that combines health monitoring, medication management, and emergency response into a single connected platform.

PulseCare consists of three major components:

PulseCare Smart Wristband – continuously monitors vital health parameters. PulseCare Smart Medicine Dispenser – ensures timely and accurate medication delivery. PulseCare Web Platform – provides real-time monitoring, alerts, and healthcare management.

Together, these components create an integrated solution that helps patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers stay informed and connected.

How We Built It

The system was designed using Internet of Things (IoT) principles, allowing devices to communicate seamlessly through cloud connectivity.

Smart Wristband

The PulseCare Smart Wristband is designed to monitor:

-Heart Rate -Blood Oxygen (SpO₂) -Body Temperature -Fall Detection -Emergency SOS Alerts

The wristband uses sensors connected to an ESP32 microcontroller, which processes data and sends updates to the PulseCare platform.

Smart Medicine Dispenser

The PulseCare Smart Medicine Dispenser is designed to reduce missed doses and improve medication adherence.

Key features include:

-Automated medication scheduling -Smart reminders -User verification through the PulseCare wristband -Real-time medication tracking -Cloud synchronization

The dispenser automatically releases medication at the scheduled time and records compliance data for caregivers and healthcare providers.

Web Platform

The PulseCare platform serves as the central hub of the ecosystem.

It provides:

-Real-time health monitoring -Emergency alert management -Medication scheduling -Compliance tracking -Family and caregiver notifications -Future telemedicine integration

Challenges We Faced

One of the most significant challenges was designing a system where multiple devices could work together as a unified healthcare ecosystem.

We had to carefully plan how health data, medication schedules, alerts, and emergency responses would flow between the wristband, dispenser, and platform.

Another challenge was balancing innovation with practicality. We wanted to design a solution that was technologically advanced while remaining realistic, scalable, and user-friendly.

Special attention was also given to elderly users, ensuring that reminders, alerts, and interfaces remain simple and accessible.

What We Learned

Developing PulseCare helped us gain valuable knowledge in:

-IoT System Design -Healthcare Technology Solutions -Sensor Integration -Cloud-Based Communication -Product Design and Prototyping -User-Centered Engineering -Emergency Response Systems -Frontend Web Development

Most importantly, we learned that successful innovation is not only about technology—it is about solving real-world problems that can positively impact people's lives.

Future Scope

PulseCare has the potential to evolve into a comprehensive healthcare platform by integrating:

-AI-based health predictions -Telemedicine services -Hospital management systems -Smart pharmacy connectivity -Advanced health analytics -Predictive emergency response systems

Future versions could provide even greater support for patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and medical institutions.

Conclusion

PulseCare is more than a healthcare device—it is a connected healthcare ecosystem designed to improve safety, medication adherence, and emergency response through intelligent technology.

Our vision is to create a future where healthcare is proactive rather than reactive, ensuring that people receive the care they need, when they need it most.
