Project Story: Pulse Telecom ConciergeIQ
Inspiration
The inspiration for Pulse Telecom ConciergeIQ stemmed from a vision to revolutionize traditional telecom customer service into a proactive, data-driven concierge experience—specifically designed for management teams to make informed, timely decisions. Having spent over 20 years in the telecom industry, I’ve consistently observed how leadership struggles with fragmented data, delayed insights, and reactive service models. This dashboard was born out of that experience—to empower management with a tool that not only visualizes KPIs but also acts as an intelligent agent, guiding them with AI-driven insights to improve service delivery, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Set in the fictional company Pulse Telecom, which operates across four regions (North, South, East, West), the dashboard simulates real-world telecom operations and challenges. It’s built to help executives anticipate customer needs, resolve issues faster, and personalize service strategies—all through a single, interactive analytics platform. This project is not just a dashboard—it's a strategic decision-support system tailored for telecom leadership, and that’s the story I wanted to bring to the Tableau Next Hackathon.
What it does
Pulse Telecom ConciergeIQ is an interactive Tableau dashboard that:
- Provides a 360° overview of customer accounts, service lines, and billing.
- Tracks case volumes, turn-off reasons, Chrun Rate, MTTR and regional performance.
- Uses embedded analytics to simulate a concierge agent that suggests actions based on trends.
- Integrates with Slack for real-time alerts and collaboration.
- Supports storyline-driven presentations for executive reviews.
How I built it
The project was built in phases:
Data Modeling:
- Created synthetic datasets in Salesforce: Customer Account, Service Line, Service Line Details, Case, and Turn-off Reasons.
- Performed semantic modeling to define relationships and hierarchies.
Dashboard Development:
- Built pages for Billing Analytics, Service Analytics, and an Overview.
- Used calculated fields, parameters, and dynamic filters for interactivity.
Integration:
- Connected Tableau to Slack for alerting.
- Designed storyline flows for executive walkthroughs.
Design:
- Applied a clean, modern UI with region-based color coding.
- Used icons and tooltips to enhance user experience.
Challenges I ran into
- Data realism: Creating believable synthetic data that mimics real telecom operations was time-consuming.
- Concierge logic: Designing the concierge agent’s decision-making flow required iterative testing.
- Performance: Ensuring dashboard responsiveness with multiple filters and calculated fields.
- Slack integration: Setting up real-time alerts with meaningful thresholds took experimentation.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Built a fully functional concierge analytics agent within Tableau.
- Created a multi-page dashboard with seamless navigation and storytelling.
- Achieved real-time collaboration via Slack integration.
- Developed a region-aware performance tracker that highlights service gaps.
What we learned
- How to simulate real-world telecom operations using synthetic data.
- Advanced Tableau techniques for interactivity and storytelling.
- Importance of user-centric design in analytics dashboards.
