Pulse Pursuit: A Heartbeat-Driven Horror RPG

Inspiration

"Pulse Pursuit" fuses interactive gameplay with physiological responses, creating an immersive RPG in a horror setting. Leveraging a live heart rate monitor, this game uniquely aligns the player's physical state with in-game actions.

Gameplay Mechanics

The core mechanic links the player's real-time heart rate with character movement and a pursuing horror entity's pace. Elevated heart rates accelerate both the player and the entity, intensifying the chase. Conversely, lower rates offer strategic pauses, adding depth to the gameplay.

Dynamic Environments

Players navigate through diverse, haunting environments like dense forests and eerie basements. Challenges include 'Touchables' like spike traps, 'Interactables' such as levers, and various obstacles that enrich the gameplay experience.

Objectives

  • Primary: Survive against the horror entity's pursuit.
  • Secondary: Collect items, utilize power-ups, and navigate through challenging rooms.

Development Highlights

Developed with Python and Pygame, "Pulse Pursuit" integrates a heart rate monitor, blending physiological data with game mechanics. This process involved overcoming challenges in programming and design, leading to an engaging and immersive gaming experience.

Visual/Audio Design

The game features atmospheric visuals and a responsive soundtrack. Audio elements, like lever sounds and varying footsteps, along with visual cues like animations, enhance the horror theme.

Future

We aim to expand the game with more environments, advanced mechanics, and multiplayer capabilities. Adapting "Pulse Pursuit" for web platforms is also planned, broadening its accessibility.

Summary

"Pulse Pursuit" stands out as an innovative blend of fear and strategy, where each heartbeat shapes the narrative, offering a unique testament to nerve and composure in virtual horror.
