PULSE - Monitoring Tool for JIRA
History Reporting - Chart
JIRA was always the center of development&IT teams. Now it becomes the center of your infrastructure & services. You will always be informed when a server fails, your website responds slowly, or a printer is out of service.
What it does
PULSE monitors your IT infrastructure and services directly from your JIRA. You don't need external monitoring tools (like nagios or zabbix) anymore. JIRA is enough, no extra software, agents or integration is required. Our add-on can monitor various number of infrastructure elements like servers, printers, switches, etc. It also collects statuses of your websites, mail servers, ftp servers, databases and every single node supporting one of standard protocols including HTTP(S), ICMP (Ping), FTP, SSH, SNMP, SMTP, POP3, or IMAP.
Automatic issue creation and resolving
When a service is down or responds too slow, PULSE can create issue automatically. When the service goes back issue can be resolved without user interaction.
Reports & Gadgets
Publishing status information for users in one place was never easier. PULSE brings also history charts and issues related to each service.
Everything is secure. You can publish statuses to all users (even not logged in) or restrict them to specific JIRA groups. Passwords required to log in to SSH or FTP servers are encrypted.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Many companies use dedicated monitoring solutions, but few of them has fully integrated IT environments. We tried to develop user friendly and powerful tool. It was challenging to design pure low-level software for not technical users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of compilation of features useful for most of IT teams, simple user interface, bunch of monitoring methods, developing extensive solution in less than 3 months.
What we learned
We learned a lot of protocols, networking, internet devices and a lot of technologies behind them.
What's next for PULSE - Monitoring Tool for JIRA
Short term updates: some user interface simplification, more reporting, more HTTP metrics to be collected. Long term plans: JIRA Service Desk customer portal integration, simplified common SNMP tests and SNMP traps support
