Inspiration
Saw the real struggles of Thalassemia patients—repeatedly searching for compatible blood donors and reliable medical guidance.Noticed a lack of seamless communication between patients, donors, and healthcare providers.Motivated by organizations like Blood Warriors and the urgent need to modernize support through technology and AI.
What it does
Uses AI to predict and match patients with the most likely available blood donors in real time.Automates alerts and reminders for both donors and patients.Provides a secure platform for communication among patients, caregivers, donors, and doctors.Gamifies donor engagement with tracking and rewards.Offers patient-focused educational resources on Thalassemia care.Integrates with national blood databases and NGO tools for coverage and efficiency.
How we built it
Developed a modular platform: backend in Python/Django, AI models (scikit-learn/TensorFlow), frontend in React Native, secure PostgreSQL database.Trained AI matching on simulated donor/patient data; designed for easy re-training with real-world data later.Built secure, encrypted communication using industry-standard protocols.Designed intuitive dashboards for all users.Created flexible APIs for integration with external platforms like e-RaktKosh.
Challenges we ran into
Limited real donation data for accurate initial prediction—had to create realistic test sets.Ensuring data privacy and compliance with healthcare regulations.Making the interface accessible to users of various backgrounds and tech skills.Preparing for integration with legacy healthcare and blood bank systems.Tackling user engagement, especially for repeat donors in the long run.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A functional prototype demonstrating AI-driven real-time donor-patient matching.End-to-end encrypted messaging system for all stakeholders.Modular, expandable platform architecture for different regions and use cases.Designed with user feedback for simple, welcoming UX.
What we learned
User empowerment and trust are as important as technical features in healthcare.Real-time communication and information access can be lifesaving for chronic illness support.Data security and ethical handling are non-negotiable in health applications.Inclusivity in design (language, literacy, accessibility) determines impact and adoption.
What's next for Pulse
Launch a pilot with Blood Warriors to test with real users and gather feedback.Integrate with e-RaktKosh and expand donor outreach strategies.Add more languages and offline access features.Enhance educational resources with interactive, local content.Scale to more regions, disorders, and connect with partner telemedicine services.
