Several friends complained to us about how difficult finding a parking spot during school hours is despite spending hundreds of dollars on permits per quarter.
The user chooses if they want to "Offer a spot" or "Find a spot". If they choose the former, they then are asked to input their name, address and number of hours/days they wish to put their spot for rent. If the latter, then a map appears, allowing them to enter a certain location (for example, UCR) and display any parking lots or spots are available. The user can pick a location, learn more about it and then decide whether or not to reserve the spot.
We built it on XCode, running it as an iOS Single View App running Swift. We used an Apple Maps API via MapKit and UIKit for displaying the buttons and maps.
We ran into difficulty displaying the map, specifically when searching for a location and the map didn't zoom into it once inputted. Earlier on, we had issues with loading pages once a certain button was clicked.
Luckily, we were able to not only fix these recurring errors, but others stemming from them. We are particularly proud of the app being able to go forward and back at any point.
We learned a significant amount of Swift and iOS development, significant since both of us started with little to none knowledge on it at the beginning of this project.
With more time, we would work on creating a database to store user information, financial transactions, recommended rates, and alert if a spot/timeframe is already taken.
