Inspiration

In the aftermath of the earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia, essential information was scattered across social media posts, messaging groups, and informal community networks. Families affected by the disaster often did not know where to find verified help, or how to reach the people and organisations offering it.

Puente Venezuela brings verified relief resources, trusted donation channels, and emergency support contacts for both countries into one simple, fast, low-bandwidth platform. It helps people find support, and offer it, in minutes, even when connectivity and time are limited.

What it does

Puente Venezuela is a central hub for earthquake-response information in Venezuela and Colombia. It helps affected people, volunteers, donors, and organisations quickly access the support they need.

Users can find verified information about: Emergency shelters and temporary accommodation Food, water, medical care, and essential supplies Donation channels and urgent needs Volunteer opportunities and local support initiatives Emergency contacts and reliable updates Resources tailored to affected areas in both Venezuela and Colombia

The platform is designed to be clear, mobile-friendly, and lightweight, so it remains useful for people with limited data, older devices, or unstable internet access.

How we built it

We built Puente Venezuela as a fast, accessible web platform using Lovable, with a focus on simple navigation and high-priority information.

We structured the product around the questions people need answered during an emergency: Where can I get help? What is needed? How can I donate? Who can I contact?

Our process included: Mapping the most urgent information needs after an earthquake Designing a simple, multilingual-friendly interface for mobile users Organising resources by country, location, and type of support Creating clear pathways for people seeking aid, offering help, or making donations Prioritising a lightweight experience that loads quickly on limited connections Using an accessible visual design that keeps urgent information easy to scan

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was working with information that can change quickly during a crisis. Relief locations, donation needs, phone numbers, and available services may become outdated within hours.

We also had to consider the realities of emergency access: Information often comes from fragmented and unofficial sources It can be difficult to verify updates quickly without delaying access to urgent help Users may have unstable connectivity, limited mobile data, or older devices People under stress need simple language and immediate next steps, not complex navigation The needs of communities can differ significantly across locations in Venezuela and Colombia

These challenges shaped our focus on clarity, speed, verification, and a structure that can be updated as the situation develops.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of turning a confusing and fragmented information environment into a single, practical starting point for support.

What we learned

This project reinforced that, in an emergency, good design is not only about appearance, it is about reducing uncertainty and helping people act quickly. We learned that: Trust and verification are as important as speed Clear categories and plain language can make a major difference during stressful moments Low-bandwidth and mobile-first design should be treated as core requirements, not optional features Communities often have valuable information, but they need a safe, structured way to share it Building for crisis response requires flexibility, because needs and information change constantly A small, focused product can have meaningful impact when it connects people to the right support at the right time

What's next for Puente

Our next goal is to strengthen Puente Venezuela from an emergency-resource directory into a more resilient, community-supported relief platform. We plan to explore: A clearer verification process for resources, organisations, and urgent updates Location-based filtering for shelters, medical support, food distribution, and donation points A resource-submission flow for volunteers and trusted organisations Live status updates for urgent needs and available assistance More accessibility features, including additional language support and simplified content Partnerships with local NGOs, community groups, medical teams, and verified aid providers Expansion into a reusable model that can support future emergencies across the region Puente Venezuela’s purpose remains simple: to make reliable help easier to find when people need it most.
