Inspiration

It all began with a trip to Hui Lan Shan, a mango dessert shop, on Friday night. With the most DELICIOUS mango pudding and mango juice, we could not stop thinking about it. Through our ideation process, the topic of mango came up innumerable times. Thus, our product is themed around mango. Specifically, mango pudding.

What it does

Pudding is a custom-designed character aiming to inspire, recommend, and teache you about the environment. Like a close friend, Pudding is designed to be friendly, approachable, and fun. Its primary function is a chatbot named Pudding, whose algorithm responds to any question asked and details tips on how to be environmentally friendly. By providing daily tips, Pudding is perfect for those who don’t know where or how to begin in their sustainable journey. Just pick your phone, open the application, and Pudding is there when you need it. Designed to be both a mobile and web application, Pudding contains an inspiration board and utilizes artificial intelligence to detect whether a product or not is compostable.

How we built it

For prototyping, we used Figma. Creating custom frames for each page, we carefully crafted each page to be visually vibrant and easily accessible.

As for languages, we had used Python, Javascript, and HTML/CSS. Moreover, we have implemented an image recognition API from Microsoft to visually detect the product being shown and whether or not it is compostable. Then, our map tab will display a list of recycling centers with their location, phone number, and recycling centers within a 10-mile radius.

Challenges we ran into

It had been difficult for us to figure out how to implement certain APIs. Although there had been a lot of documentation, we found that our biggest bottleneck was time. Unfortunately, we were too ambitious on our project and had to scale our project into something that was feasible within 24 hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of going from the ideation stage to the creation stage in a span of fewer than 24 hours. By working as a team, we had the opportunity to learn about each of our team member's interests and how we could each contribute. More than anything, we gained new skills pertinent to our future careers and were able to meet so many amazing women, sponsors, and mentors.

What we learned

It's hard to decide on what is feasible and what is not. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for a juicier impact.

What's next for Pudding

We would love to be able to fully implement our Chat API and Map API!
