Playing a role in someone's semi-digital adventure, without being asked to participate. That's what we all will experience some years from now. People wearing AR glasses are turning their environment into a mixed reality gaming arena, you included.
But is it ok to turn people unwillingly into NPCs for an action game in (for example) the supermarket and using their gesture data for that purpose? If people unknowingly appearing in the scenery are masked, that should be ok. So that's what I wanted to try out with this game.
This lens uses a mesh-mask to turn your anonymize all people you encounter. They look like virtual game characters, but they're not. Without any complicated code, this method unlocks a type of NPC that acts very naturally. But still unpredictable enough to be featured as a worthwhile opponent.
The aim of the game is to walk around in subtle ways without grabbing the attention of people around you. Because when they look at you, their laser eyes will hit you.
The future possibilities for this game genre are numerous. But first, we need to decide if the core concept is ok and if we can indeed play these kind of multiplayer games in public space. If we would have to ask every single person that's within our view, then AR gaming will have a problem. Let's hope this is a fix, because it's exciting to thing about the huge universe of mixed reality games that we will gradually all be entering.
