1. Inspiration & Target Market

The inspiration behind PT plus arises from a common issue: people often struggle to train correctly without a personal trainer. Incorrect form can lead to injuries, slow progress, and frustration, but hiring a personal trainer is costly, typically ranging from $50 to $100 per session.

At the same time, home fitness is booming. Despite the availability of fitness apps, YouTube workouts, and virtual training, users still lack real-time feedback essential for safe and effective training.

We aim to bridge this gap with AI-powered posture correction and personalized workout plans, providing real-time feedback akin to human trainers, at a fraction of the cost.

Target Market:

  • Home fitness users – Prefer workouts at home over gym memberships.
  • Gym-goers – Seek AI-based real-time feedback without trainer costs.
  • Beginners & intermediate users – Require guidance for proper form and structured workout plans.
  • Corporate wellness & gyms – Businesses and fitness centers aiming to enhance offerings with AI technology.

Our mission is to make PT plus the go-to virtual personal trainer for everyone, from beginners to seasoned athletes.

  • Instant voice and visual feedback to correct form.
  • Personalized workout plans tailored to individual fitness levels and goals.

3. How We Built It

  • Next.js: Open-source React framework for frontend development.
  • Datastax AstraDB: Leveraged built-in vector embedding for exercise database management.
  • Datastax Langflow: Created our retrieval-augmented generation model for smart workout planning.
  • FastAPI: Python framework used for backend deployment and posture analysis.
  • Ultralytics: Production-ready computer vision framework for posture tracking.
  • Vercel: Frontend deployment platform.
  • AWS: Backend deployment platform for posture analysis.

4. Challenges We Faced

  • Datastax was initially new to us, but workshops and mentoring significantly helped implementation.
  • Diverse team backgrounds initially posed challenges in defining project scope and timeline. Ultimately, each team member significantly contributed to the project's success.

5. Accomplishments We're Proud Of

Despite academic and work commitments, our team successfully collaborated and overcame challenges. Also, this is the first time have to build something from scratch with only 48h. The challenge was draining, but it was worth it.

6. What We Learned

  • Cross-platform development poses substantial challenges due to differences between desktop and mobile.
  • Selecting a mature, production-ready platform accelerates MVP development.
  • Effective team engagement is essential for project success.

7. What's Next for PT plus?

Future Plans & Scaling:

  • Wearable Integration – Syncing PT plus with devices like Apple Watch and Fitbit.
  • Gamification & Leaderboards – Implementing challenges and rewards to motivate users.
