Inspiration

Mental health challenges continue between therapy sessions, but patients may struggle to remember or explain their experiences during their next appointment. We created PSYLINK to bridge this communication gap and help patients share their experiences more easily.

What It Does

PSYLINK is an AI-assisted platform that connects patients and psychologists between sessions through voice check-ins.

Voice Check-ins: Patients share short updates about their mood, sleep, anxiety, and daily experiences. Speech-to-Text: Voice messages are converted into text for easier review. AI-Assisted Insights: Patient-reported information can be organised into summaries and relevant patterns. Patient History: Organised updates can help psychologists better understand a patient's experiences over time.

Our goal is to make communication more continuous and help patients and psychologists have more informed conversations.

How We Built It

We used a combination of web development, back-end engineering, speech recognition, AI, and database technologies.

Frontend: Next.js and TypeScript Backend: Python and FastAPI Speech Recognition: AssemblyAI AI Processing: DeepSeek Database: Supabase and PostgreSQL Deployment: Vercel and Render

These technologies form the foundation of our voice-based mental health communication workflow. Only integrations implemented in our submitted prototype are considered completed features.

Challenges We Faced

One of our biggest challenges was translating a real-world mental health communication problem into a practical software solution. We also had to consider how different technologies could work together while keeping the experience simple for patients.

Working with voice transcription and AI highlighted the importance of accuracy, privacy, and responsible handling of sensitive information.

Accomplishments We're Proud Of

We developed PSYLINK around an important gap in mental health care: communication between therapy sessions. Our three-member team brought together front-end development, back-end development, project ideation, presentation design, and documentation to develop the project.

We are proud to explore how voice technology and AI can support more organized communication between patients and psychologists.

What We Learned

We learned how front-end and back-end systems, speech recognition, AI processing, and data storage can work together in a single application. We also learned that mental health technology must prioritise privacy, accuracy, and human oversight.

What's Next for PSYLINK?

We hope to improve patient history tracking, add clearer longitudinal mood trends, develop concise pre-session summaries, and expand language support. Future development will also focus on stronger privacy protections, safety measures, and evaluation with mental health professionals.

Responsible Use

PSYLINK is intended to support communication, not replace professional mental health care. It is not a diagnostic tool or an emergency service. AI-generated insights may be inaccurate and should not replace clinical judgement. Any real-world deployment would require appropriate privacy, security, and clinical evaluation.
