The risks

As psychologists, psychiatrists and doctors trained in psychotherapy, we fear that the emotional load and the workload imposed by the virus on the healthcare staff will generate: • Post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), • Burnouts, • And significant and disabling emotional and relational difficulties in the short and long term

Our solution

www.PsyForMed.com is a platform which allows medical staff to make free appointments with more than 2,000 volunteer psychologists with as little as three mouse clicks. Our psychologists are continuously and freely trained to be as adequate as possible in their interventions.

The project is already functional in french for Belgian, French and Luxembourgers medical staffs and caregivers.

How we built it

I first created a video on social media to call the psychologists community to come together to support caregivers. In fifteen days, 2000 volunteers joined our movement !

Simultaneously to the dissemination of this video, the developer I engaged began to code the appointment scheduling program. By working together day and night for 20 days, we have created a real community of mobilized professionals and a stable appointment booking platform.

This platform is now recognized as one of the psychological support actors for healthcare staffs in Belgium and France. In addition to offering a listening service to caregivers, we are developing mutiple projects to provide continuous training (e.g. supervision, information) to the benevolants psychologists engaged in the project.

Challenges we ran into

Coffee shortage during development... More seriously, we are looking for funds to perpetuate our actions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The platform was functionnal for the medical staff and caregivers within five days :-)

What we learned

When we join our strenghts we can carry out crazy projects !

Why we participated to the hackathon ?

We would like to find new ways to make the platform known to the caregivers and to create collaborations with meds or psycho researchers (to create quality content for caregivers) or with companies or foundations that could support us financially.

What we did during the weekend

We collected contact with psychological researchers (in order to offer the most adequate, precise and recent clinical recommendations possible to our psys) and others mental health project holders (to think how we can mutualise our ressources in the future). We hope that the contacts we took this weekend will materialize in the upcoming days and weeks.

What's next for PsyForMed

In addition to offering psychological consultations (by phone or visioconference), we want to boost our prevention efforts for the caregivers. For this, we want to create video capsules about PTSD and burnout mecanisms and how to protect oneself from them.

In the future we also want to train as many psychologists as possible to burnout and PTSD treatment specificities because we know that these pathologies are likely to affect many caregivers in the upcoming months.
