Inspiration
As pledges of Alpha Kappa Psi, we felt that we could return to the community by working to build an effective and easy-to-use tool in order to streamline fraternity operations.
What it does
PsiFy comes with payment integration and allows for the parsing of budgeting spreadsheets and creation of membership pie charts. Additionally, we added community engagement through events and fundraising.
How we built it
This is a full-stack app built with Next.js that uses SQL as a database in order to keep authorization information.
Challenges we ran into
We were having issues with the XLSX parsing at first, trying to use a Python backend. The Python works separately and does parse the data, but we were having issues sending it back to the frontend. As a result, we ended up parsing with TypeScript itself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud to be able to build such a multifunctional app with the short time allotted.
What we learned
We learned more about full-stack integration and relational databases, as we are usually used to non-relational databases such as MongoDB.
What's next for PsiFy
To get a Flask server running and host our product, along with more effective payment integration!
