Inspiration
Our current musical instruments are difficult to learn, expensive, impossible to repair, or all of the above. The ProxySynth is a flexible, easy-to-use synthesizer which is extremely easy to build and get started with.
What it does
The proxysynth functions as a theremin, as such that when your hand moves closer to the device, the pitch increases, and vice versa.
How we built it
We used a grove buzzer, an arduino r4, and an ultrasonic sensor.
Challenges we ran into
Determining how to tune the sensor and preventing weird jitters in pitch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of making an instrument easy enough to use that others in the room could pick it up immediately.
What we learned
- How to work the Arduino IDE
- The quirks of the ultrasonic sensor ## What's next for ProxySynth We plan on modifying the system by which proximity of one's hand is determined, prefferably using a magnetic finger piece and hall effect sensor.
