Mông Community in Lao Cai Province

What it does

The Community Kiosk Communication Hub provides a centralized point for the Mông community to access vital information, voice concerns, and communicate with local authorities. It features an interactive touchscreen, emergency alert systems, and offline functionality, allowing residents to stay connected even in challenging geographical conditions.

How we built it

We designed the kiosk to be durable and weather-resistant, incorporating a solar-powered battery system for sustainability. Collaborating with local engineers, we created a user-friendly interface with multilingual support. A prototype was built and tested conceptually to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before final production.

Challenges we ran into

We faced difficulties in ensuring the kiosk’s durability against extreme weather conditions and in creating a user interface that was intuitive for all age groups. Additionally, gaining community buy-in and ensuring that the kiosk meets the specific needs of the Mông community required extensive outreach and engagement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We came up with the idea for the Community Kiosk Communication Hub, which has the potential to significantly improve communication and connectivity in the Mông community. The concept has been well-received during discussions, indicating strong community interest and support for the initiative.

What we learned

We learned the importance of involving the community throughout the design process. Gathering direct feedback helped us refine the kiosk concept and ensured it aligns with the specific needs of the Mông community. We also discovered that training and support will be crucial for maximizing future usage.

What's next for Untitled

We plan to finalize the design and move towards prototyping the kiosk. Once we have a working prototype, we aim to conduct field tests in collaboration with the Mông community. We will also explore partnerships with NGOs for funding and broader outreach to ensure the project's sustainability.
