Inspiration The silent crisis of counterfeit drugs in Bangladesh. We realized that while fake meds kill, smartphones are everywhere—giving every citizen a tool to fight back.
What it does An AI-powered scanner that checks medicine packets for forgeries. It analyzes batch numbers, fonts, and holograms via Gemini to spot "red flags" before a patient takes the pill.
How we built it Built with a React mobile-first frontend, Node.js backend, and the Gemini 1.5 Flash API for high-speed, forensic image analysis.
Challenges we ran into Dealing with varying print quality from legitimate local labs and fine-tuning the AI to distinguish "low-quality printing" from actual "counterfeit markers."
Accomplishments that we're proud of Creating a sub-3-second verification loop that works on mid-range smartphones, making life-saving technology accessible to the general public.
What we learned The importance of "prompt engineering" for visual forensics and the necessity of balancing AI confidence with strict medical disclaimers.
What's next for Protikaar Integrating a real-time database link to the DGDA for official batch verification and adding an offline mode for rural connectivity.
