After considering the prompt, we decided to make a game that will educate players about the ozone layer and how their decisions affect it.
What it does
Our game is essentially a choice-based game that will ask users questions and tell them how their actions impact the ozone layer.
How we built it
We built the game using Scratch, so that we can focus less on line-coding, and instead focus our efforts in research and user experience.
Challenges we ran into
Before coding, we had to create a structure or flow for our game which was a bit difficult as we had to think very deeply about how players will perceive the game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our main graphic designer, Jackie, is very proud of the game introduction screen she made :)
What we learned
We learned about how our daily decisions impact the ozone layer and also studied how the ozone layer can cause damage to the human population. In addition, we learned the importance of delegating tasks and responsibilities when working in a group; Jackie was our main graphic designer and animator while I was our main researcher and programmer.
What's next for Protect the Ozone!
"Protect the Ozone!" could be revised to be a simulation-based game rather than a choice-based game. This will allow users to experiment with concepts such as ODS and recycling and observe how it affects ozone-layer depletion (adjusting independent variables to see how it will affect the dependent variable).
