Inspiration

We were inspired by the real struggles faced by underprivileged amputees in India. While affordable and open-source prosthetic designs already exist, most people still cannot easily find suitable designs, get them properly made by reliable local makers, or receive clear fitting guidance. Many end up with poorly fitting limbs that are eventually abandoned. I wanted to build a practical platform that puts trust, proper fitting, and real usability at the centre of the solution.

What it does

ProstheticTrust connects amputees with curated low-cost and open-source prosthetic designs, verified local makers, and step-by-step fitting guidance. Users can assess their needs, get design recommendations, find trusted makers, and follow simple training modules — all in one place.

How we built it

Built with Flutter (Android-first) and Firebase. Key features include design catalogue with quality scoring, maker verification, guided measurements, and voice-supported fitting modules. Designed for offline use and low-literacy users.

Challenges we ran into

Building everything alone, creating a practical trust system, designing simple fitting guidance, and keeping the solution realistic for rural users with limited internet.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a complete user journey focused on trust, proper fitting, and real usability. Developed a quality scoring approach and a clear MVP tailored for Indian conditions.

What we learned

Technology alone is not enough. Understanding user trust, fitting problems, and real-world constraints is equally important. Working solo also taught me strong prioritisation.

What's next for ProstheticTrust

Expand designs and languages, onboard more makers, improve recommendations, gather real feedback, and explore NGO/government partnerships.
