Inspiration
AI agents are starting to pay bills. A single altered invoice (a swapped payee, an inflated amount, or a hidden "pay this new account" line) can make an agent send money to the wrong place. Models can be fooled; the payment step should not be.
Who it's for
Small-business owners and freelancers who want an AI agent to handle routine vendor payments without handing it a blank check.
What it does
- The AI agent reads incoming invoices (sample data only), extracts payee, amount, and due date, and proposes payments with a short explanation.
- A deterministic gate, outside the model, checks every proposal: payee allowlist, amount cap, due-date sanity, payee-change and prompt-injection detection.
- Each proposal gets PASS, HOLD, or BLOCK, with the reason shown.
- The owner approves an exact payment. The approval is bound to a hash of that payload, so if anything changes after approval, the payment does not go out.
- Only approved, unchanged payments are sent through the PayPal sandbox, and the transaction ID is recorded in a payment ledger.
How we use PayPal and AI
- PayPal: PayPal developer platform in the free sandbox (exact API — Payouts, Orders v2, or Invoicing — is being finalized). Sandbox only; no live keys and no real money.
- AI: an LLM agent parses invoices, plans which to pay, and explains HOLD/BLOCK reasons. The AI proposes; the gate and the human decide.
What changed during the hackathon
ProofPowers began on Oct 28, 2026 (inside the submission period) as an approval gate for agent actions. For this hackathon we are building, in a new repository, the PayPal sandbox payment flow, the invoice-reading agent, payload-hash-bound payment approval, and the payment ledger. Status as of Nov 5: early draft submitted for the eligibility check; the build, demo, and video will be updated before the Nov 12 deadline.
Safety
Sandbox only. No secrets in the repository (keys live in environment variables). Sample, non-real data only.
