Inspiration
Proofly came from my own experience as a student trying to keep up with demanding school work while managing a busy schedule. As a varsity football player taking multiple AP classes, I often studied late at night with limited time and energy. I realized that the hardest part of studying wasn’t learning the content, it was preparing to study. Making notes, creating flashcards, and finding good practice questions took more time than actually understanding the material. I wanted a tool that could remove that conflict and help students focus on learning instead of setting up to study.
What it does
Proofly is an all in one education app that helps students study any subject by instantly generating notes, flashcards, and practice exams. It also includes an AI tutor mode that provides explanations and answers questions in real time, allowing students to learn at their own place. Beyond individual studying, Proofly supports study groups with video sessions so students can learn collaboratively. It also features AI-generated courses that turn a subject into an organized study plan. To encourage consistency and hardwork, Proofly includes a rewards system that motivates students through points, streak, and progress tracking while keeping learning new material as the main focus.
How we built it
I built proofly as a web based education app with a focus on accuracy, usability, and relevance to real coursework. To generate high quality study materials, I used AP exam practice multiple choice questions and free response questions as reference points for creating notes, flashcards, and practice exams that reflect how students are actually tested. The app takes a topic or subject as input and structures the content into notes, review materials, and exam style questions. I focused on building a clean, functional app so students could move easily between learning, practicing, and testing without distractions.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing Proofly to work across a wide range of subjects while still producing accurate and useful study materials. Different subjects required different levels of conceptual depth, memorization, and problem solving, so ensuring that generating notes and practice questions were helpful, it took a lot of testing and revision. Aligning content quality with AP level expectations, especially for free response style questions, required repeated testing and refinement. Another challenge was balancing powerful features with the simplicity of other features. Proofly includes an AI tutor, study groups, and course generation, but the interface needed to remain calm for students who might be using the app late at night or under a time crunch. Managing development alongside school work and varsity athletics also pushed me to build efficiently and prioritize features that delivered the most value to students.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of turning a personal struggle into a real, working platform that students can actually use. Proofly is live and has been used by real students, showing that the problem that I also had is shared by many others. Bringing together AI tutoring, AP aligned study materials, collaborative study groups, and a motivation system into one experience was a significant achievement. Most importantly, Proofly feels authentic to how students learn. It wasn’t built as just an idea, but through late nights, packed schedules, and the constant pressure of trying to succeed academically while managing anything else.
What we learned
Building Proofly taught me that effective education tools must support both learning and motivation. Even high quality content can fall short if students struggle to stay consistent or organized. I learned how important it is to design around real student behavior, not common study habits. I also learned how to manage a long term project alongside academics and athletics. Proofly pushed me to plan carefully, revise continuously, and stay focused on the end goal which was helping students learn better, not just building features like every other education app.
What's next for Proofly
Looking ahead, I want to continue fixing Proofly to better support long term learning. This includes deeper personalization so study materials can adapt to students strengths, weaknesses, and pace. I also plan to expand the AI tutor to provide more guided problem solving and exam specific feedback. In the future, I want Proofly to support full academic journeys, helping students plan their studies across entire semesters and exams. My goal is for Proofly to become a reliable study partner that supports students not just academically but emotionally, and reduces stress and makes learning feel more manageable.
