Inspiration
Online fashion shopping still asks customers to make an important decision with incomplete information.
You can see the product. You can see a model wearing it. You can read the description and reviews. But one question remains:
"What will this actually look like on me?"
That uncertainty can make shoppers hesitate, choose the wrong product, or regret a purchase.
We wanted to turn that guess into something more tangible.
PROOF was inspired by a simple idea:
Don't just tell shoppers what they might like. Let them see it on themselves before they decide.
We combined AI-powered decision support with YouCam's visual AI and Apparel Virtual Try-On technology to create a more confident fashion shopping experience.
What it does
PROOF is an AI-powered fashion purchase-confidence assistant.
Instead of simply recommending clothes or generating a virtual try-on image, PROOF helps users move through the entire decision:
Choose → Personalize → Try → Compare → Decide → Shop
A user can:
Select a fashion product. Choose the occasion they are shopping for. Select their preferred style. Upload a photo. Use YouCam Apparel VTO to see the actual product on themselves. Get an AI-generated explanation of why the look fits their selected context. Compare different looks. Build a complete outfit with complementary products. View the final look and proceed toward purchase.
The goal isn't to tell someone that they "look good."
The goal is to give them more useful visual evidence before making a purchase.
How we built it
PROOF is built as a modern full-stack web application using:
Next.js TypeScript Tailwind CSS shadcn/ui Framer Motion YouCam APIs LLM-powered reasoning Server-side API routes Vercel YouCam Apparel VTO
The core of PROOF uses YouCam's Apparel Virtual Try-On technology.
We provide the user's image and the selected clothing reference image to YouCam, allowing the system to generate a visualization of the user wearing the selected product.
This transforms a generic ecommerce product image into a personalized visual experience.
AI decision layer
We built an AI layer around the YouCam result.
Instead of treating the VTO output as the final result, PROOF considers:
The user's selected occasion Preferred style Product information Outfit composition Available visual results
The AI then provides contextual explanations and helps users compare their options.
Product and outfit layer
We created a structured fashion catalog containing products, prices, categories, colors, styles and occasions.
This allows PROOF to move beyond a single try-on and create complete looks that can eventually connect directly to ecommerce purchasing.
Skin AI
PROOF also has the ability to incorporate YouCam Skin AI as an additional personalization layer.
Rather than presenting skin-analysis numbers as a standalone dashboard, our approach is to use relevant visual information as part of a broader personalization experience.
We intentionally avoid making medical or unsupported claims from the analysis.
Challenges we ran into
- Making virtual try-on useful rather than just impressive
Virtual try-on is visually impressive by itself, but we wanted it to solve a real problem.
The challenge was designing the experience so that the generated image became part of an actual purchasing decision.
We solved this by building comparison, contextual recommendations and a complete-look workflow around the VTO result.
- Working with asynchronous AI processing
AI image generation isn't instantaneous.
We had to design the experience around processing states so users understand what is happening instead of seeing a generic loading screen.
PROOF uses contextual states such as:
Preparing your look → Creating your virtual try-on → Analyzing your options → Preparing your result
- Creating a coherent fashion experience
A product catalog, AI recommendation and virtual try-on can easily feel like separate features.
We designed the experience around one continuous journey:
Choose → Personalize → Try → Compare → Decide
- Keeping AI recommendations grounded
We didn't want the AI to generate meaningless statements such as "You look amazing."
Recommendations are instead connected to information the user provides, such as occasion, style preference and product characteristics.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We turned VTO into a decision tool.
Our biggest accomplishment is not simply getting a virtual try-on image.
We built a workflow where the visualization helps answer a real question:
"Should I choose this?"
We created an end-to-end shopping experience.
PROOF connects:
Product discovery → Personalization → AI reasoning → Virtual try-on → Comparison → Complete look → Purchase
We made YouCam an important part of the product.
YouCam isn't hidden behind a simple API call.
Its visual AI is central to the experience and directly contributes to the value delivered to the shopper.
We designed for real retail use.
PROOF is designed around a scenario where a fashion retailer could integrate personalized visualization directly into its ecommerce experience.
Instead of only showing:
"Buy this product"
a retailer could give customers:
"See it on you before you buy."
What we learned
We learned that the most valuable AI experiences aren't necessarily the ones with the most AI features.
The important question is:
What decision does the AI help someone make better?
We also learned that virtual try-on becomes much more valuable when it is connected to the rest of the shopping journey.
A generated image is interesting.
A generated image that helps someone compare two products and make a purchasing decision is useful.
We also learned the importance of designing around the limitations and processing behavior of generative AI rather than hiding them from the user.
What's next for PROOF
PROOF is currently focused on fashion, but the underlying idea can expand into a broader visual commerce platform.
For fashion retailers
We want to enable retailers to integrate PROOF directly into product pages so customers can visualize products on themselves before purchasing.
Complete-look visualization
We plan to expand from individual garments into complete personalized looks, including:
Clothing Shoes Bags Watches Jewelry Accessories More YouCam experiences
We can extend the platform with additional YouCam capabilities around beauty, hair, makeup and accessories to create a more complete personal visualization experience.
Retail intelligence
In the future, PROOF could learn from user interactions such as:
Which products users try Which looks they compare Which styles they prefer Which products they ultimately select
This could help retailers create more personalized shopping experiences.
The long-term vision
Our long-term goal is simple:
Make online shopping feel less like guessing and more like knowing.
PROOF — See it on you. Know before you buy.
