Inspiration
Most people have brilliant ideas in their heads but struggle to express them clearly to AI. They write simple prompts like “Make a horror story” or “Create a logo,” and feel disappointed when AI gives shallow or generic results. I realized the problem isn’t the AI — it’s the prompt. So I built PromptMaster to bridge this gap: a tool that transforms vague thoughts into powerful, cinematic, structured prompts and teaches users how to think creatively with AI.
What it does
PromptMaster refines any user prompt into a highly detailed and professional prompt using advanced structuring, tone enhancement, emotional layering, and creative clarity. It also explains what was missing in the original prompt and what improvements were added, helping users become better prompt writers over time. A polished UI, example prompts, and history tracking make it feel like a premium, beginner-friendly AI assistant for creativity.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React, Vite, TypeScript, shadcn UI, and Tailwind CSS for a clean, modern, dark-themed aesthetic. The backend uses modular API routes for prompt refinement, and prompt history is stored using Supabase. The app features toast notifications, collapsible refined prompt cards, glowing UI elements, example prompts, and smooth transitions to create a premium experience. Refinement logic uses structured AI rewriting patterns, while enhancement analysis breaks down missing elements like clarity, tone, constraints, and detail.
Challenges we ran into • Designing an interface that feels premium but remains easy for beginners. • Building a refinement engine that outputs consistent, high-quality, cinematic prompts every time. • Managing UI spacing, responsiveness, and ensuring dark-mode neon elements don’t overpower readability. • Integrating prompt history with clean UI controls and smooth interactions. • Keeping the app fast and lightweight while adding new features.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of • Creating a tool that genuinely improves user prompts in a meaningful, creative way. • Designing a beautiful and intuitive interface that feels like a real SaaS product. • Building a refinement flow that outputs professional-grade prompts with structure, tone, and depth. • Adding enhancement insights that actually teach users how to think in prompts. • Developing a strong product identity and brand aesthetic in a very short time.
What we learned • Prompt engineering is less about AI and more about how humans communicate ideas. • UI/UX clarity dramatically affects whether users understand the value of a tool. • Even simple features like “Before vs After” examples or toast notifications massively improve satisfaction. • Good prompts require structure, emotion, detail, constraints, and intention — and people appreciate learning these elements. • Building fast and iterating quickly helped refine the product much better than planning everything upfront.
What’s next for PromptMaster • Adding advanced prompt quality scoring and suggestions. • Launching a “Weekly Prompt Challenge” to build a community. • Creating prompt packs for YouTubers, designers, writers, marketers, and creators. • Introducing a course system with certificates to teach AI prompting skills. • Adding user accounts, dashboards, and personalized prompt libraries. • Designing a premium plan with unlimited refinements and advanced output modes.
