Inspiration

Several months ago, I discovered MidJourney. The artificial intelligence algorithm was in closed beta but I managed to get an invite and was immediately overwhelmed by the implications of how capable the technology was, even in its infancy. I began learning the nuances to prompt writing and how a well written description could result in more captivating, memorable art. As impressive as the images were, as new versions of MidJourney were released, the principle of the prompts as an interfacing language with what felt like the dreams and nightmares of a singularity, were the catalyst for this proposal.

As MidJourney was released publicly, a tidal wave of reactions washed over art communities spanning the entire world. Anger, astonishment, excitement, resentment; an entire spectrum as we sobered to a near-future that would almost certainly end careers and studios from concept artists to graphic design agencies. Still convinced that the prompts were the engine in all of this, my mind manically iterated through the most likely scenarios to come. I concluded that soon, a creative would be more relevant as a skillful prompt writer than an artist.

Selling prompts

These developments have moved at a dizzying pace. In a matter of weeks, while furthering my understanding of prompt writing, I learned of a website called PromptBase. I'd already considered there would, one day, be a platform that served as a marketplace where unique prompts could be written and sold. "One day". PromptBase sells artisanal prompts from writers across all major algorithms including MidJourney, Dall•e and Stable Diffusion. Again, as one browses the categories, it's clear that the prompts are the commodity, not the art it generates.

Celebrities, Influencers and Artists

In my pitch video, I mention Cameo. For a fee, you can own personal video engagements recorded by your favorite celebrities. Often birthday or anniversary wishes, or as a surprise for friends. The Cameo experience is another piece of the puzzle that fell in to place while this idea formed in my mind. An EOS marketplace that whitelisted or verified accounts of celebrities, public figures and notable artists could then make 1:1 prompts available to fans and collectors. Again, with the knowledge that the prompt is the real value and what's being sold.

What is most compelling is that established creators, known for mediums other than visual art, would now be capable of monetizing their imagination and creativity in a visual way. Neil Gaiman, for example, or George R. R. Martin, would have the ability to write beautiful, haunting, emotively descriptive prompts, uniquely crafted for collectors, then make them available for purchase. Nearly all of these AI engines have API's that integrate with other UI's, front ends and platforms, so once the collector purchases the prompt, they would be given a, "Generate", option.

During my work on Immutable Realms, I did an interview with legendary surrealist, Peter Gric. Much of our conversation was about NFT's and AI generated art and at one point, I asked him to share a couple of his prompts with me for the zine.

The interior of an monumental Lovecraftian cathedral covered with complex 3D roots systems and cables in the middle a sci-fi alter with a big sapphire eye in the center science fiction steam punk artstation

This was the prompt he shared with me. I decided that along with his original art featured in Immutable Realms, I would run his prompt through MidJourney and include the art that resulted. This experiment is what affirmed for me that this marketplace needs to exist! The results were absolutely stunning, even for me. As a fan of Peter Gric's for over a decade, this is a piece I would gladly pay for and be proud to own. Alt text

How An EOS AI Art Platform Would Go Even Further

If this platform was built on EOS, the obvious, "game over", feature is NFT's. Once collectors purchased prompts and generated their art, the final step would be minting 1:1 NFT's. Through an automated process, similar to that used in EdenOnEOS's member NFT creation, a certificate of authenticity, specific to the original creator [...complete with signature] and newly generated art could be minted and transferred to the collector's EOS wallet.

Abstract

There are several strategies a marketplace platform on EOS could take. What became the firestorm of NFT popularity in 2018 was 1:1's and PFP's [i.e. CryptoPunks]. Exclusivity would naturally command higher prices giving collectors a generated piece of art seeded from a prompt written just for them. However, for a more commoditized approach, prompts could be made available at more reasonable prices, even from celebrities, because no two generated results will be the same. The marketing and product development is extremely versatile.

Potential Creators

Here are a few artists, writers, actors, performers and public figures that I feel would be the most compelling on this EOS platform:

J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Guillermo Del Toro, Peter Jackson, John Carpenter, Tom Waits, Bjork, Alan Moore, Dita Von Tesse, Nicholas Cage, David Fincher, Luc Besson, Tilda Swinton, Jordan Peele, Dan Carlin

Benefits For EOS

A simultaneous net positive for EOS with this platform is the immeasurable exposure from hosting a marketplace for celebrities, while also reaffirming the advantages of DPOS for transaction based, Web3 networks, specifically in the minting of NFT's. For me, this is essential to luring the massive value associated with the Etherum NFT ecosystem to the EOS blockchain. Fast transactions with little to no fees would give the most influential creatives exploring AI and NFT's a frictionless experience. If the complicated aspects of blockchain are abstracted away while monetizing their unique talents in revolutionary ways, they will market EOS to the world.
