Inspiration - My own experiences were the inspiration because I always forget when my promotions are going to expire for subscription services like mobile phone and internet. Then my bill increases in price and I end up paying more when I could have called earlier to negotiate a price and avoid the extra charges.
What it does - The app tracks the subscriptions you have along with details such as start and end dates, how much it costs, any discounts you are receiving and the contact information for the subscription provider. It gives a visual representation of all the subscription in relation to each other, sorting them by which urgently need attention and which do not. Those that need attention can be selected by user where a negotiate feature allows them to select from a list of crowdsourced prices and assistance for negotiating with an agent via script generation.
How we built it - I built this application using Claude as my coding agent. With the skill pack installed I slowly developed my vision for the app through the many questions I was asked by the agent. Claude generated much of the code, while I focused on validation, architecture, and design decisions. It is made using several web frameworks such as React and Next.JS as well as Google Gemini for the LLM component. It is a browser based mobile friendly application.
Challenges we ran into - I never encountered any challenges, the process was smooth from beginning to end. The only challenge I can think of was excluding some features I wanted to keep, and keeping the video demo short.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - Completing it in one weekend before the deadline. Also I'm proud of realizing my vision for the minimalist design and the fact that it is functional and works with demo data.
What we learned - That the coding agent is a powerful tool that can greatly speed up the software development life cycle. I could not have done the proof of concept this quickly without the help of the coding agent. I also learned that the flipped interaction process is a better way to design and build an application when using a coding agent because it allowed me to get something more unique and personalized to my own vision as opposed to something generic created by the AI.
What's next for Promo Cliff Alert - I would like to add useful features like push notifications to alert users when promotions are expiring and real crowd sourced data. Also I would like to make improvements to the user interface and possibly develop it into a real mobile app for iOS and Android.
