Inspiration

We were inspired by a common problem faced by students, developers, creators, and professionals: people often start goals with excitement but struggle to stay consistent. Most productivity apps only track habits but fail to provide emotional support, accountability, and motivation.

We wanted to build a platform where people could publicly or privately commit to promises, receive encouragement from a community, and stay motivated through progress tracking and AI-powered guidance. This idea led to the creation of PromiseEdger — a social accountability platform designed to turn promises into progress.

What it does PromiseEdger allows users to:

Create personal or public promises/goals Track progress and daily streaks Share updates with the community Receive motivational comments and support Join accountability groups Get AI-powered productivity and consistency suggestions

We built PromiseEdger as a modern web application using:

React / Next.js for the frontend Tailwind CSS for UI design Firebase / Supabase for backend services and authentication AI integration for productivity guidance and motivation systems

We focused heavily on creating a clean and engaging user experience with:

Real-time updates Progress tracking Social feeds Responsive design Dashboard analytics Gamification systems like streaks and achievements

We also designed role-based permissions so users can only manage their own promises and comments. Challenges we ran into One of the biggest challenges was balancing productivity tools with social interaction. We wanted the platform to feel motivating and community-driven instead of looking like a simple task manager.

We also faced challenges with: Designing scalable real-time interactions Managing user-generated content Structuring progress tracking systems Building intuitive UI/UX under hackathon time pressure Creating a system that feels emotionally engaging
