Inspiration
At IdeaLab Pro, we believe that every high school student holds the potential to create something remarkable — if only they are given the right tools and guidance. The inspiration for ProjectPulse came from seeing how students often have brilliant ideas but struggle to organize, refine, and present them professionally. We wanted to bridge that gap — combining creativity, critical thinking, and real-world application into one intuitive experience.
What it does
ProjectPulse is an AI-powered platform designed to help high school students:
Discover and develop creative project ideas across science, technology, society, and the arts
Identify real-world problems and propose innovative solutions
Organize their thoughts into professional presentations
Learn through deep-thinking challenges and structured project timelines
All of this happens through an interactive and friendly interface powered by PartyRock by AWS, making the experience both fun and educational.
How we built it
We leveraged the simplicity and flexibility of PartyRock to design an app that feels personal and responsive to each student’s input. Using smart prompt engineering, we allowed the app to handle missing inputs gracefully — meaning even if students weren’t sure what they wanted yet, the AI could still help guide them by suggesting realistic and exciting project ideas.
The app was designed with a clear focus on:
Student-friendly language
Adaptable project guidance
Simple but powerful user interactions
By layering customizable prompts, dynamic input fields, and carefully structured outputs, we transformed PartyRock’s basic building blocks into a polished, high-impact educational tool.
Challenges we ran into
Building ProjectPulse wasn’t without its hurdles:
Handling incomplete inputs: We had to design smart fallback logic so that students could leave inputs blank and still receive meaningful results.
Keeping AI responses teen-friendly yet professional: Balancing a friendly tone without dumbing down the content was a key focus.
Maintaining creativity without chaos: Too many random ideas can overwhelm students, so we built prompts that stayed creative but also realistic and actionable.
These challenges forced us to iterate several times, constantly refining the prompts, outputs, and user flow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re especially proud that ProjectPulse:
Empowers students with both inspiration and structure — a rare combination
Works even when students are unsure or hesitant, thanks to smart default logic
Encourages deeper thinking through reflective questioning at every stage
Presents complex AI interactions through a simple, intuitive interface
What started as a basic idea became a highly polished experience that can truly make a difference.
What we learned
This project taught us some key lessons:
Prompt engineering is everything: The quality of the app is directly tied to how thoughtfully prompts are crafted.
Simplicity wins: Students (and users in general) appreciate clarity, focus, and easy-to-follow steps.
PartyRock is incredibly powerful when you push its creative boundaries with smart design thinking.
Most importantly, we learned that AI doesn’t replace creativity — it amplifies it when used thoughtfully.
What's next for ProjectPulse
We’re excited to keep evolving ProjectPulse by:
Adding a "Peer Review" feature so students can get AI-simulated feedback from other "students"
Building a mini "Portfolio Mode" where users can save, organize, and grow multiple ideas over time
Exploring integration with real-world competitions, hackathons, or science fairs to make student projects even more impactful
