Inspiration
As college students, we're starting to invest into stocks but it's hard to know what to invest in without fully understanding our portfolios. We wanted to build a tool that acts more as a financial mentor rather than just a trading app.
What it does
PorfolioPilot helps students understand their portfolio. Users can import their own portfolio or choose a portfolio template, then view a dashboard with their portfolio value, allocation, top sector, and generated insights. Gemini powers the AI tutor that answers beginner-level and explains the pros and cons of the user's current portfolio.
How we built it
We built PortfolioPilot using React + Tailwind for our frontend. Meanwhile, our entire backend was powered by Gemini. We used Gemini for constructing our requirements doc and ideating, while Antigravity was our IDE for further prompting and retooling of our application.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges regarding API limits, making the design feel less "vibey", and brainstorming an idea that would resonate with all of us but also have good social impact.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to create this product in less than 3 hours and only prompting!
What we learned
We learned how powerful AI (especially Gemini!!!) can be in building tools quickly.
What's next for ProjectPilot
Next, we would add deeper personalization, goal-based financial roadmaps, portfolio health scores over time, smart alerts for risky concentration, and eventually brokerage integrations. Our goal is to help students become better investors, not just show them portfolio numbers.
