Challenges we ran into

The issues regarding group projects have long been a pain for countless students worldwide. Such issues include a lack of cohesion within a team, scheduling conflicts, and differences in working styles, which all lead to suboptimal learning outcomes. Group projects are designed to facilitate a socio-cultural learning context. Therefore, groups must have team members who complement each other’s strengths and have similar goals to optimize learning outcomes and support self-exploration. Additionally, with the increased usage of remote learning platforms, it is difficult to effectively keep track of progress within a group and facilitate communication without the physical presence of team members. Beyond education, similar issues arise with lack of accountability, difficulties in scheduling, and unclear goals, often leading to subpar performance in the workplace. These problems necessitate a focus on fostering communication, setting clear expectations, and implementing strategies to address these recurring pain points in group projects.

Our Solution To address these issues, ProjectPal aims to create a more effective and rewarding group project experience while making it interactive for users by incorporating game elements. Our solution intends to improve on the challenges of group projects in the education sector through: 1) asking daily questions to gain a more holistic view of users for better matching, 2) matching the users to compatible teammates, 3) tracking group and individual progress to ensure accountability. Our matching system uses input from the user’s onboarding survey, project questionnaires, and daily questions run through Google Vector AI search to continuously improve recommendations of teammates with complementary strengths, goals, and schedules to foster a better collaboration experience. The tracking system improves communication between teammates and holds each teammate accountable for specific responsibilities. With this system, we hope to revolutionize the way group projects are being managed in the field of education alongside remote learning platforms.
