Inspiration

As tech majors, we aim to refine our skills outside of our academic curriculum; therefore, we aspire to pursue multiple personal projects that provide exposure to a variety of sub-domains and latest technologies. However, since these projects do not carry credit or weightage for grades like semester projects, students are often reluctant to invest their time and learning in such endeavors--leading to lack of appropriate, enthusiastic and diverse teams to work on large-scale innovative ideas. With Project Pal, we aim to eliminate this predicament by providing a platform for students globally to connect with like-minded individuals and seek support from industry experts.

What it does

It acts as a social media platform that enables students from different universities around the world to collaborate and synergize for project ideation and development, including for competitions and hackathons. Moreover, it also enables faculty members to supervise projects of their choice.

How we built it

Front-end: HTML, CSS and JavaScript Database: MySQL Backend: PHP

Challenges we ran into

  1. Verification of emails
  2. Difficulty seeking professors willing to provide support on an a virtual platform 3.Inadequate sign-ups due to limited marketing
  3. Discrepant interests of students on platform, leading to incomplete teams and delayed progress

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Identification of verified users and only allowing them access to the project portal

What we learned

We utilized the knowledge and skills gained from our Databases course and project, further augmenting our learning and delving into socially impactful ideas.

What's next for Project Pal

We would like to add an additional feature to the project page: a planner that students could utilize to delineate their timeline by setting anticipated deadlines for sub-task. Additionally, users would be notified via email in case of not achieving the required milestone on time.
