You join the organization Trash Reduction And Sea Protection - TRASP - whose goal is to send teams of volunteers on scientific boats to explore the ocean floor. However, due to a lack of funds and a surge in volunteers for missions, you find yourself on a rather modest boat with a quite damaged exploration robot. With your team, you embark on the challenge of renovating your ship and exploration robot using materials collected from the ocean during your marine exploration missions. Will you be able to reach the depths of the ocean?

Multiplatform

We have tested our game on each platform (Android, iOS, macOS, Chrome, Windows, and Linux). This is showcased in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aymEFIw8M7U

Inspiration

For this game, we wanted to use a subject that talked to us, and the protection of the ocean was the one we chose. The ocean is a reflection of our consumption and our waste, ultimately goes in it. This has an impact on the ocean ecosystem and changes the way of life of many fish species around the globe.

What it does

The game takes you on a journey to explore the polluted ocean, by helping to explore and clean the ocean, you will find more about what is happening in the deepest scariest zone of the ocean.
Take control of our discovery robot and join a mission to discover and clean the ocean. The game allows you to:
Ocean
Control your robot to explore the deep ocean
Get resources by collecting and recycling trash during your journey
You can exchange resources at the market.
Get more information on what you can do on the non-governmental organization board.
Discover the beauty of the fish livelihood, but pay attention to the enemy fish that can attack you
As you go deeper, the ocean will change according to the 4 zones that are implemented
Boat
You can drastically improve your robot with upgrades as a cost of raw material (battery, motor, storage, stabilizer, life, resistance)
-ou can also upgrade your boat to facilitate your exploration (recycler - give more resources from trash, storage, repair station)
Talk with your crew members and build a relationship with them. They will be more than happy to help you if they appreciate you.
Discover the story of the crew member and why they have joined the TRASP

Teams
You can join a team to gather your effort and try to be the best trash collector in the world Profile

How we built it

Essentially, the game run is made with Flutter and some server-side API made with PHP. We started with a pretty basic gameplay proof of concept and we added more and more features with time. Finally, the extended week has given us enough time to add cool game mechanics and our little introduction made with the animations Widget of Flutter.

Challenges we ran into

Creating our first game wasn't an easy task! We have tried to make the use experience at the center of our effort to ensure that the game can be pleasant. However, the game design is not an easy task, particularly the balancing part, to make an enjoyable progression for the player.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Finally, we have achieved to make a real - little - game that appears fun to us. We weren't thinking of making a game this size at the beginning and it was a really cool experience to work with Flutter on a game project.

What we learned

During this journey, we learned much about what we can do to help preserve our earth. As we are young, we already are immersed in the change for our future, but thinking about how to impact other people is always a way of learning new things.

What's next for ProjectOcean

We plan to release updates with our original idea that we haven't finished on time and some upgrades:
-More diverse fish and trash
-AI for enemy fish
-More speakable staff and people on the boat
-Daylight circle
-Darkness in the deep ocean
We hope to bring all of that in the next months, so stay tuned :)
