Inspiration
We were inspired by reward mechanics from Tamagotchi toys and Class Dojo, which were used as reference for our own reward mechanics.
What it does
Learning financial literacy has never been easier. OneOhOne is an all-encompassing app that helps high schoolers manage their finances for the first time, be it either through detailed analysis of their purchase history, actionable advice to save for long-term goals through our chatbot, or through a receipt scanner to encourage and simplify extensive record keeping. OneOhOne rewards good financial habits by awarding in-game gold that can be used to buy, maintain, and customize pets, but be careful! Bad financial habits will slowly starve your pets under the weight of your poor purchasing decisions.
How we built it
We used Javascript, React-Native, Gemini API, and Capital One's Hackathon API, Nessie, with code assistance from Gemini.
Challenges we ran into
Integration the financial analysis with our gameplay was a challenge, as they were developed in parallel. We also had issues with certain parts of the gameplay itself not behaving with the rest of the app, and some API calls were particularly tricky to diagnose.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Leveraging Nessie and Gemini to provide actionable feedback to the user was a significant part of the project, and we're quite happy with how we turned out.
What we learned
We learned a lot about implementing banking APIs and integrating them with AI applications
What's next for OneOhOne and Team VADeR
We may return to polish up OneOhOne in the future, possibly by adding a leaderboard mechanic, or creating a system that allows groups of friends to save up collectively towards a common goal. We could also potentially introduce reward functions for donating (a reasonable amount) to charities.
