Inspiration

The spark for Momentum was ignited by the systemic "broken rung" in the corporate ladder that specifically impacts women. We were deeply moved by the story of Lillian Garland and the millions of women today who still face professional "erasure" after maternity leave or family-related breaks. We realized that while the world has evolved, the recruitment algorithms and hiring biases have not. We wanted to build a bridge that turns a "gap" on a resume into a launchpad for the next chapter of a woman’s career.

What it does

Momentum is a comprehensive career-reentry ecosystem designed to dismantle the "confidence gap." It serves as a one-stop-shop providing:

AI-Driven Guidance: Intelligent tools that translate caregiving and life management skills into corporate-ready professional competencies.

Personalized Career Pathing: Curated roadmaps that suggest upskilling opportunities based on the current market landscape.

Supportive Community: A dedicated space for resources and motivation, ensuring no woman feels she is navigating her "comeback" in isolation.

How we built it

We utilized Figma as our primary architecture tool, focusing on a "human-first" design philosophy.

Accessibility & Inclusion: We prioritized WCAG-compliant color contrasts and intuitive navigation to ensure the platform is welcoming to all users.

Strategic Prototyping: Every feature was mapped against our business strategy, ensuring that the user flow from "onboarding" to "job-ready" was seamless and psychologically empowering.

Challenges we ran into

Our primary hurdle was moving beyond a standard, dry business template to create something that felt as vibrant as our mission. We struggled to balance the heavy data—the millions of women overlooked—with a creative visual identity that conveys hope and "momentum." Refinement of our competitive analysis was also key; we had to clearly articulate why a purpose-built structural advantage beats a generalist platform like LinkedIn.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of the synergy between our high-fidelity Figma prototype and our strategic business plan. We didn't just build a set of screens; we built a viable business case. Effectively communicating how "purpose meets profit" through a design that feels both premium and empathetic is our greatest win.

What we learned

This project was a deep dive into the intersection of Social Impact and Scalable Technology. We learned that a business plan is only as strong as the problem it solves; by focusing on the "Why" (Lillian Garland’s legacy and the modern woman’s struggle), the "How" (the tech stack and design) became much clearer. We also sharpened our skills in user-centric design, learning how to build for an audience that may feel vulnerable or discouraged.

What's next for Momentum

The next phase for Momentum involves moving from prototype to production. Our roadmap includes:

Beta Testing: Partnering with specialized job boards to test our AI resume-translator with real users.

Employer Partnerships: Developing a "Momentum Certified" badge for companies that actively recruit and support women returning from career breaks.

Feature Expansion: Integrating live mentorship matching to pair returning professionals with industry veterans.
