We are looking to modernize the way we track and report our tasks to promote a larger emphasis on productivity and sleep! Timeblocking is a new and improved method to allocate specific times!
As first-year graduate students at The University of Chicago (who are ironically brand new students to CS), we faced problems with allocating our tasks properly! With students who come from many backgrounds and levels of experience, it's quite the shift to ensure you are completing your work, projects, and leaving enough time to debug your code :D
What it does - Our product takes into account a variety of activities that the user engages in per week. These activities should be as specific as possible (i.e. Complete Java HW#3, BJJ Session #1, etc.). These tasks should be allocated an estimated time to complete, which you can then allocate across a week in a very detailed manner. Our app will track what you complete, how much you sleep, and track patterns to ensure that you are being your most productive self.
How we built it - We used figma to envision our UI and React.js to code the MVP front-end.
Challenges we ran into - As first year students with 0 experience in CS...and no understanding of how Hackathon's actually work, we were completely unprepared for what it takes to craft a practical solution for a common problem. We loved the experience and hope it gets easier over time!
Accomplishments that we're proud of - Making it through both days in one piece! And sleeping on the floor without causing permanent back damage.
What we learned - The struggles of de-bugging code at 4am, and the absolute joy of a gogurt at 5am.
What's next for Project TimeBlock - Hopefully something more concrete and functional!
