Inspiration

Our project is intended to help the visually impaired by making it easier to detect obstacles.

What it does

The project is a phase-array sonar detector that alerts the user of obstacles ahead.

How we built it

We split our responsibilities into two main tasks. Half of our group worked on the sonar device and the other half focused on communication with python and displaying the sonar data.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was integrating the Arduino code with Python using serial communication.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coming together as a team and building something inspired by real life phase-array technology.

What we learned

We learned that phase-array technology is very complex and deals with very specific timing.

What's next for Project Spot

Updating and optimizing the visualization and adding haptic (non-audio) feedback, as well as designing a permanent housing for the prototype.
