Inspiration
As an epileptic I have found little to no support communities that fit my needs. So I decided to go ahead and craft a user friendly site that makes community accessible. When we think of accessibility we tend to forget about tending to psychological and emotional aspects and it is just as important to address these as the physical components of accessibility.
What it does
A website that helps connect epileptics, their caretakers, and support members to resources and a community.
How we built it
I used python for my support chat bot, as well as HTML and CSS to build this site. I created a forum component on tribe.so which I linked on the site through the use of a button.
Challenges we ran into
I started off with a team on Friday and on Saturday the team had completely dissociated. The biggest issue is that I only had basic python skills and in no other languages, so bringing my idea to life became my personal challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I managed to build a website entirely on my own and pushed out of my comfort zone by 1000%. I got it to work and I am satisfied that it looks like a website and has interactive components.
What we learned
I learned the basics of html and CSS. I went to 0% to feeling comfortable enough that I have a site, that works and is accessible to screen readers.
What's next for Project Spartan
Finding a domain and hosting the project to finish bringing it to life. The site also needs more back end and front end improvements.
