We wanted to make children and their parents feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.
What it does
Introduces a caretaker team through the mascot Sparky. Allows the child to know who's taking care of him or her. Can engage team by liking a specific doctor, nurse, etc. Gamify the experience with Sparky. We can play with him by taking selfies together. Reward system is set up to encourage child to take more selfies and engage with the app.
How we built it
We did our prototyping using Justinmind and developed the app with Swift and Xcode. Backend work was done contacting Microsoft's Emotion API and storing information into a SQL Lite database.
Challenges we ran into
Making the interface child friendly and focusing on a specific goal. Prioritizing requirements.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how well we worked as a team despite our diverse backgrounds. We are proud of how we integrated sentiment analysis and how it can provide for more than just the child. We are really proud that we made an engaging child friendly app.
What we learned
We learned about the Emotion API. There are at any given time at least 7 people on a child's care team. Even apps that can seem simple can have a big impact.
What's next for Project Sparky
Working on the game aspect whereby the more selfies you take, you get points and then give Sparky more clothes and toys.
