Inspiration
Everyone has had trouble with procrastination and scheduling time at least once in their life. So, why not make an app that could help people with procrastination and scheduling time.
What it does
Helps customize schedules for the day by adding activities to your day schedule, creating a to-do list, and helps you decide what assignment you want to do.
How we built it
We first brainstormed ideas about what features this program should have. We decided to have calendar, daily schedule, notifications, to-do list, spinners, and a reminder system. Then, we built this program using java and the platform IntelliJ. There are other programs like android studio that have better application making tools, so this code is a sample pseudo version that is a simple outline that can be implemented in different application. With greater knowledge, resources and time making this project would be possible.
Challenges we ran into
We originally planned to create our project using python in replit, but we quickly realized that it was not suitable for all our members. Having to change coding languages was somewhat difficult, yet manageable. It also made dividing up the work challenging. The code itself was difficult to do because it was our first time working with the nuances of the scanner class in Java. It was also difficult to get the code to rerun for multiple features to occur during one round instead of only one feature at a time. This took intensive knowledge of while statements and parameters to keep the code running.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of producing a project while having minimal coding experience, and time constraints. This is all of our's first hackathon and we were able to finish a product. We're all also newly made friends that never knew each other before so lot of our time was used getting to know each other.
What we learned
Plan out what you want, and communicate clearly so that the task at hand can be done efficiently. Be flexible and use all the tools you can get. There will be multiple ways to accomplish one task but pick one suitable and most efficient for your goals.
What's next for Project Promage
We want to do a connection with screen time, locking apps to make users focused, notification and reminders, and adding anti-procrastination quotes users can see when opening the app. Turning this into an actual application that has an interface for users to interact with.
