What it does

Project Pre aims to take the hassle out of the job-hunting process by turning it into a game. Users can compete with their friends to improve job-related skills, unlock prizes, and ultimately build a portfolio of work samples that will land them their next job.

The application, in its current form, is intended for entry-level developers who have a notoriously difficult time demonstrating their skills to hiring managers. When it comes to technical work, a resume and even GitHub often fail to convey a programmer's true ability.

Project Pre gives these new coders a chance to build a footprint, be validated by the community, and amass a wide sampling of their technical prowess. Project Pre is not merely a job board, but it is a place professionals come to improve and exposition their technical ability.

How we built it

This solution is an Asp.NET MVC using HTML/CSS and JavaScript for the front end.

Challenges we ran into

Our small team size (2) severely limited our ability to flesh out the learning, and sample-submission features of this site.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of what we have been able to build in these 24 hours. We are proud of the concept, and with a little more time (and maybe another developer or two), we know we could build something very marketable.

What we learned

  • Don't try to merge in Git while you are in debug mode.
  • Macs don't do well with VS 2015 downloads.

What's next for Project Pre

  • Fleshing out the learning and code sample features.
  • Expand our focus to include employer-centric features.
