Inspiration
One of the hardest parts about making a project (at least for me) is coming up with a good idea. My inspiration for this came while I struggled to develop good ideas for this hackathon. My mind decided to go 'meta' and I knew I had to make this, for once and for all. To eliminate further frustration in my life, and the lives of others. And thus we have, Project Pal.
What it does
Project Pal is your best friend when it comes to planning out your projects. This application can help you generate a core idea for your project, come up with very cool features, and guide you step by step as to how you could go about making your project! For each step, you can also ask it questions for further clarification, and even watch the videos it recommends so that you can truly understand what you have to do. Did I also mention there are checkboxes to keep track of your progress?
How I built it
I used a react front end and a flask server for my back end. I also used Google's Gemini API and the Youtube Data API to get information for projects.
Challenges I ran into
This was my first time using an AI API, so it was kind of hard in the beginning, but once I had a basic foundation, it was smooth sailing. A challenge was trying to incorporate markdown elements for headings and other text components, so that the program could return information that I could nicely render. But I did some parsing and figured out a solution.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The fact that Project Pal works is remarkable to me. I'm fairly happy with it, especially because I'm pretty sure it's going to be something I'm going to regularly use to make cool projects. It's much more helpful than I expected.
What's next for Project Pal
I might incorporate the ability to add multiple projects and keep track of all progress, probably using Firebase. But that's for later.
