Inspiration
We were inspired to create this website by the Great Pacific garbage patch, more commonly known as "trash island".
What it does
Our website provides users with information about common trash found on the beach in addition to providing an interactive game session where users who are currently at the beach alone or with friends can begin a countdown timer to collect trash and gain points as they go depending on what trash they collect.
How we built it
We created the website in Repl.it using HTML, CSS, and Java Script.
Challenges we ran into
We had a variety of challenges as we made this website. One of them being we had dreamed further than we were capable of with our current abilities. We had been hoping to make this an app in which friends could see in time comparisons with each other and compete while seeing each others activities. However after realizing we did not have the abilities to make such a complex application we began using a website in which we were able to create an individual session for the game with a timer and point system. Another challenge learning javascript as none of us had ever used it before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're most proud of incorporating Java Script into our code in order to create a timer and point system for the game sessions. We are also proud of how we figured out how to register and use a domain for the website.
What we learned
While working on Project Oceanus, we learned how to incorporate javascript into our Html in order to make our core features function as well as how to register and use a domain.
What's next for Project Oceanus
In the future Project Oceanus would eventually develop an application in which users would be able to see their friends activity and compete with each other in a combined session where both are working together. Furthermore we would like to incorporate beach days into the app in which users who participate on these days would be entered into a raffle to win sustainable and reusable prizes.
