Inspiration:
The simplicity and minimalism of pixel style games always gave me wave of nostalgia from pokemon and undertale when I was younger. That's why my partner and I wanted to try coding a pixel game ourselves.
What it does:
- story mode
- first person
- puzzles and attacks
- 8 bit
How we built it:
We coded it all in scratch using code blocks.
Challenges we ran into:
We were having a hard time with sprite animation. Our main character Pogo had walking animation and an attack animation. The walking and attack animations tended to jumble up instead of only showing the animation for the specific movement. We fixed this problem by adding greater than & less than blocks so that if the sprite went past a certain costume the costume would go back to its original costume. Therefore only playing the needed costumes in the animation sequence.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We were able to fix our bugs and hand animate some of our sprites using pixel art software.
What we learned:
We strengthened our scratch knowledge and capabilities altogether but specifically we were able to learn how to make a game with levels, sprites that could attack back without having to press anything on the keyboard, and how to animate a working sprite.
What's next for Pogo Loco:
Definitely improving our boss battles where its not too easy and adding more to Pogos storyline.
