Inspiration

The motivation behind POI Verifier stemmed from the challenge of maintaining accurate geographic data in complex road networks. Multiply digitized roads often contain inconsistencies, leading to navigation errors and data quality issues. We aimed to create a reliable solution to detect and resolve such discrepancies.

What it does

POI Verifier ensures accurate Points of Interest (POI) on multiply digitized roads by performing logical analysis on data from the HERE Technologies database. It identifies non-existent POIs, incorrect locations, and attribution errors, maintaining high-quality mapping data.

How we built it

We carried out data cleaning, merging, and analysis using logical methods to find variables that help detect inconsistencies. The process involved identifying patterns and correlations that indicate potential errors in POI attribution.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges was correctly identifying legitimate exceptions from erroneous POI attributions. Handling complex cases where multiple roads overlap required careful analysis and data validation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully developed a robust methodology to distinguish between valid and invalid POI cases, minimizing false positives. Additionally, our logical approach proved effective in dealing with data inconsistencies.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of data cleaning and logical analysis within the context of geographic information. Identifying meaningful variables to detect POI inconsistencies was particularly insightful.

What's next for POI Verifier: Accurate Mapping Insights

Future developments include scaling the approach to a global focus implementing the analytical approach to other city databases.
